Gabasa Ravine

Images Barranco de Gabasa

Gabasa is a small population belonging to the municipality of Peralta de Calasanz that is located in the right margin of the denominated Gabasa ravine, with narrow streets and houses that maintain the tipismo of the small rural nuclei. The town is in a privileged enclave surrounded by vegetation and water being very abundant the olive trees, oaks and poplars. Its church, dedicated to San Martín, is an original work of the XII century, reconstructed in the XVIII century. In the centre of the village there is a large rock known by the locals as the "midday rock" or Migdía, where there was probably a castle-fortress of which some remains of a possible tower still remain.

To the east of the town, a section of the ravine has been fitted out as a short distance footpath, but at the same time of great beauty, highlighting, for example, a beautiful waterfall. The vegetation is interesting and lush, typical of a colder climate. It is a humid and spectacular enclave where you can see a gallery forest in which Lombard poplars, walnuts, liton trees, hazelnuts, willows and other species form a unique space in the whole south of the province of Huesca. The existing micro-habitat favours the presence of a high number of botanical species of great interest. The fauna also becomes a visible attraction in which squirrels, badgers, ginets or roe deer stand out.
Nearby is the Ull clot, a water spring that is retained by a small dam, forming a beautiful pond of crystalline waters.
