What to do in and around Gabasa

GORGE

Gabasa

is a small population belonging to the municipality of Peralta de Calasanz that is located in the right margin of the denominated Gabasa ravine, with narrow streets and houses that maintain the tipismo of the small rural nuclei. The town is in a privileged enclave surrounded by vegetation and water being very abundant the olive trees, oaks and poplars. Its church, dedicated to San Martín, is an original work of the XII century, reconstructed in the XVIII century. In the centre of the village there is a large rock known by the locals as the "midday rock" or Migdía, where there was probably a castle-fortress of which some remains of a possible tower still remain. To the east of the town, a section of the ravine has been fitted out as a short distance footpath, but at the same time of great beauty, highlighting, for example, a beautiful waterfall. The vegetation is interesting and lush, typical of a colder climate. It is a humid and spectacular enclave where you can see a gallery forest in which Lombard poplars, walnuts, liton trees, hazelnuts, willows and other species form a unique space in the whole south of the province of Huesca. The existing micro-habitat favours the presence of a high number of botanical species of great interest. The fauna also becomes a visible attraction in which squirrels, badgers, ginets or roe deer stand out. Nearby you will find Ull's clotThe water is retained by a small dam, forming a beautiful pool of crystalline water.

MONTREBEI-MONTFALCÓ

Natural border between Huesca and Lleida (Aragon and Catalonia) and shares territory with the protected areas of the Natural Reserve of La Noguera and the Montsec mountain range. The Congost de Mont-rebei or Gorge of Mont-rebei is a spectacular route carved in the mountain range of Montsec by the river Noguera Ribagorzana.

The gorge is impressive for its landscape and its dimensions. At some points the width is reduced to 20 meters while at others the vertical walls rise to 500 meters. Along the way, through the path carved into the rock, there are points of great interest such as the suspension bridge of the Barranco de Sant Jaume, located forty metres above the river.

The Congost de Mont-rebei is also an area of enormous ecological value due to its endemic flora and wild fauna, in which birds of prey such as bearded vultures, vultures and golden eagles stand out. Adventurers can choose from hiking, kayaking, mountaineering, potholing and even cycling to enjoy the incredible landscape of this practically unspoilt natural area.

CHINESE WALL OF FINESTRES

A whim of Nature that reminds us that no one like her can create places of this complexity and beauty. And no one like humans to face the challenge of building in them.

Within the Ribagorza region and in the middle of the Montsec mountain range, a protected natural area of the central Pre-Pyrenees. This Aragonese corner marks the limit with the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and is part of the Ebro River Basin. A nature paradise in all its glory.

The rock wall is a geological wonder of limestone. Two vertical and parallel rock walls, unforgettable for anyone who looks at them. And in the middle of them, the ruins of the medieval castle and the chapel of San Vicente.

The Finestras is a magical place where you can imagine the day-to-day life of its people in the past.

To admire the wall, you must go up to the viewpoint of the San Marcos hermitage, a church that is kept in good condition and open to the public. Sitting on the bench that rests on one of its walls will offer you unforgettable views.

From there you will have a unique panoramic view of the place: you will be able to see the wall, the San Vicente chapel and the Canelles reservoir, which is another protagonist.
